The Grocer's Wife
"It's been a long time since such an odd, almost dangerous film arrived on the Festival's doorstep. Shot in dense, menacing black and white and featuring a most bizarre soundtrack, this unsettling fairytale is a completely original feature debut."
- Toronto International Film Festival
"The Grocer's Wife is more than just a film: It's a little miracle. Debutant director John Pozer turned a mere $150,000 into a slick, studied film noir which should earn him critical raves and enthuse art film aficionados worldwide."
- Variety
"The Grocer's Wife is what science might call a singularity - odd, fascinating and theoretically unrepeatable."
- Cameron Bailey, Now Magazine
Starring Simon Webb, Susinn McFarlen, Jay Brazeau, and Nicola Cavendish in the title role, the film garnered two Canadian Academy (Genie) awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Nicola Cavendish as the ripe and appetizing Mrs. Friendly. Renowned composer, Mark Korven (The Witch), was nominated for Best Original Score (perhaps best described as 'Henry Mancini meets Tom Waits.')
